Life as Happy: Happiest Quotes
So who is the happiest person alive? Can we learn his secrets? The popular media consensus shows that it is [amazon_link id="0316167258" target="_blank" ]Matthieu Ricard[/amazon_link], a 64 year old Buddhist Monk who acts as an interpreter for the Dalai Lama. To see if meditation can affect levels of happiness, he took part in a scientific study performed at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and scored significantly higher in happiness levels than the average volunteers. The results were obtained after testing hundreds of other volunteers along with other long-time meditators. Each of them had experienced at least 10,000 hours of meditation and all of them were given MRI scans to determine if meditation had any measurable effect on their brains. The scans did indeed show that meditation impacted the brain in a way that could be observed and that all the meditators revealed very high positive emotions in the area of the brain associated with happiness. The MRI tests also showed a notable degree of suppression of any sad, depressed or negative thoughts.
After further scans of inexperienced meditators, the scientists concluded that even inexperienced people who meditate had increased levels of happiness, and that meditation has the capabilities of being a very powerful happiness booster.
